Sushi bowl: it’s pretty much a bowl of all sushi ingredients and tastes exactly like sushi but doesn’t involve all the difficult, messy and pretty much impossible parts of regular home-made sushi.
You can add whatever ingredients you want, in whatever amounts you want – that’s why I didn’t add any measurements into this recipe because it’s completely up to you and how much you feel like eating.
Sushi bowl ingredients:
- ‘Forbidden’ black rice*
- Nori (dried seaweed)
- Fresh tofu
- Pickled ginger
- White balsamic vinegar
- Soy sauce
To make the sushi rice I cooked about 130g black rice and then made a mixture of 1tbsp balsamic vinegar and 1tbsp stevia powder and added it to the rice.
I then put some nori in a bowl and added the rice. I also added cooked tofu, grated carrot, cucumber, avocado, pickled ginger and a little scoop of mayonnaise to the bowl, sprinkled soy sauce on everything and it was done!
It’s a super easy and very delicious recipe and I hope you get the chance to try it out!
You can use any type of rice in your sushi bowl. I really enjoy the texture and taste of black rice and that’s why I chose to use it. Nutritionists also claim that ‘forbidden’ black rice boasts impressive health benefits and you can read about them here.
For a low-sodium alternative, you can replace the soy sauce with tamari. Some tamari sauces are also gluten free.
I created the liquid mixture of balsamic vinegar and stevia because I didn’t have any sushi vinegar. If you have that available to you, you can use that instead. If not, my mixture tastes almost the same.
You can also replace the stevia with sugar. I used stevia to reduce the sugar content of my sushi bowl.
